The Alcohol abuse has also been found to be associated with domestic violence and family breakdown among Torres State Islander Aboriginal communities ( Ramamoorthi et al, 2014 ). The Alcohol abuse among these communities also creates a contributing environment to instigat e them for antisocial behaviour and other criminal activities (Rothman, 2014). Alcohol abuse during pregnancy is also very harmful for the developing foetus and the babies could be born with diseases such as fetal alcohol syndrome (Grant et al, 2014). Torres Strain Islanders are the group of indigenous people who mainly belong to the culture of the Melanesians and are much similar to the inhabitants of the Papua New Guinea islands. Often researchers consider them to be different from the other aboriginal group of people living in Australia. Although they are found to engage themselves inter marriages and different types of histological trades thy conduct with the mainland aboriginal people, they are generally refereed to as different. Nearby the cost of the mainland, two different types of Torres Islander people are observed. They are Bernaga and also Seisia. The 2011 Australian census figures state that the total population level residing in theTorres strait Island are found to be 4248 out of which 3856 are actually Torres strait islanders. The survey also showed variations by gender and region. The prevalence of alcohol consumption is found to be lower in indigenous females as compared to indigenous males. During the survey, it was found that about 30 % of indigenous people had successfully abstained form alcohol in comparison to that of 17% of males in the indigenous groups who were also abstaining from alcohol consumption in the last year before the survey was conducted. Moreover the data also provided an interesting outlook where it was shown that alcohol consumption by indigenous people in the remote areas were far less when comparison was done with same kind of people in the non remote areas. About 38% of adults in the remote areas tried to avoid alcohol consumption in comparison to that of 19% of adults belonging to indigenous communities residing in the non remote regions in the past year of the survey. Also the NATSISS data found that 17 percent of 15 + years aged Indigenous people were consuming alcohols at a risky level that may put them to a long-term risk of diseases (ABS 2010). The gender-wise consumption of high-risk levels alcohol was 20 percent in men as compared to 14 percent in women. Moreover indigenous persons in young age-groups were more seen to indulge to high risk levels of alcohol; that too in the age-groups of 35-44 years. This is followed by age-cohort of 25-34 years (ibid). Also about 63 percent of indigenous people, who were taking in alcohol at the risky rate, were also found to undertake smoking pleasures. Moreover, it was also found that 37% of the cohort who were taking alcohol at a high risk was also found to be associated with illicit drug taking habits. The data found that about 37 percent of indigenous people consumed higher levels of isk of alcohol during 2 weeks before to the survey. Also about 46 percent of males were involved in binge drinking as compared to 28 percent of females. Moreover binge drinking was found to be highly associated with the habits of high level daily smoking i.e. 59 percent as compared to 33 percent for low risk drinkers (ibid). The substance abuse in high-risk percent as compared to 33 percent for low risk drinkers (ibid). The substance abuse in high-risk binge drinkers was 32 percent as compared to 18 percent in low-risk drinkers. Also the NATSIHS survey 2004- 05 reported that prevalence of high risk binge drinking was more in the category of the indigenous Australians in comparison to that of the non- indigenous categories of people. Another interesting fact that was also found is that the adults o f the indigenous people are about more than 1.2 times more seen to drink at short intervals as well as higher risk level when comparison was done with the non- indigenous adults. There were also gender-wise differences. Indigenous males were two times more likely to involve in high-risk binge drinking as compared to non-indigenous males. Moreover indigenous females were three times more likely to involve in high-risk binge drinking as compared to non-indigenous females (ibid). Moreover when researchers pondered upon the age wise data, they saw that the indigenous people overall had a greater tendency towards the habit of binge eating in comparison to that of the individuals of the non indigenous category. Communities could be empowered by forming self-help groups among them and providing social support from outside. Thus addressing the structural determinants of alcohol abuse may best help addressing the problem effectively. There is an urgent need to provide education to women and children who could individually help the man to be also educated and encourage them to participate in health promotion programs. There is a need to form different unions like women self-help groups and also for self-help groups for men, schools for children, adult education and social support. Eliot’s most popular poem and it is the one responsible for the launch of his career as one of the 20th century’ leading and influential poet. Among the things he constantly look upon is the things he did not do, his regrets for acting the way he did, for his indecisions, and most of all he is looking back on his failure with regards to women thus one could then on say that one of the primary tones of the poem is that of a tired, ironic self-criticism. The character of Prufrock made many references on his going bald, most notably was a scene with a reaper who is holding his coat for him so that he could then on leave this material world. Prufrock tried to make himself feel what it is like to be young again one notable example was when he tried to dress and fashion his hair the way young men does. The original title of the poem is actually Prufrock Among Women and this particular emasculation added a certain depth to the themes the author would delve into which rotates around the notion of paralysis and heroism. As was mentioned earlier this poem takes the form of a dramatic monologue in which the speaker unconsciously reveals a part of himself to the silent readers. The city discussed in the poem appears gloomy, it seems to portray the city in a half dead, desolate, and lonely feel. The streets seems to curve to a particular conclusion or question and it seems to ask if the protagonist should dare to assert himself or to reach out and try to communicate with other people.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The fourth stanza of the poem implies to life’s triviality as could be seen on the following line â€Å"hundred indecisions†¦before the taking of toast and tea†. The readers could then envision Prufrock worrying himself over life’s trivialities such as what tie to wear at the party and what words he should use to strike up a conversation (presumably with a woman) at the party. The women the protagonist is about to meet at the party are belittled in that their primary use is to serve as some kind of a decoration and keep shallow conversation going all throughout the party as could be seen on the following line â€Å"that lift and drop a question on your plate† (Eliot, 1917).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the sixth stanza of the poem one could envision the protagonist hesitating on whether he should continue to climb the stairs which would take him to the place where the party is being held, he keep on worrying on whether he should â€Å"dare† communicate or try to reach out to these people. In the seventh stanza the protagonist was pondering about the things he did or the trivialities he did in his life and it also shows that he knows what kinds of people would be present at the party. He knows that those people are full of life’s superficiality. These particular people were further singled out in the 9th stanza as women of women on which the protagonist seems to posit an attitude synonymous to sour-graping.   Upon close observation the readers would then on see that these elegant women have hairy arms, however, in spite of that these women still have some kind of an effect to the protagonist of the poem as could be seen when he was not able to organize his thoughts which is being diverted by the smell of the perfume of these women. It is important in this line to notice that Prufrock does not treat these women as a whole people but rather merely as part of their physicalities which attracts and mislead other people as could be seen on the following lines, â€Å"eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase†, â€Å"faces that you meet†, voices dying with a dying fall† (Eliot, 1917) and the like.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On stanzas 79-80 the protagonist was once again pondering on whether given lots of empty times should he try to assert his personality and try to reach out to other individuals. Mainly because the protagonist talked a great deal about women on his earlier stanzas one could then assume that the line â€Å"force the moment to its crisis† (Eliot, 1917) have an innuendo of sexuality because whereas the inability to communicate himself appears to be the primary theme of the poem, the protagonist incapacity to have sexual relationship is taken care of in a more specific manner. If someone is incapable of having sexual relationship with another individual, he is cut off from the some things considered worth while in life and the protagonist is portrayed as someone who is incapable of making a move on a woman (he could not even reach out to converse to any people, much less a woman) because of his fear to look ludicrous in front of them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The protagonist inability to make use of the time or opportunities given him is signified by the past tense found in the twelfth stanza. In this stanza the readers would be able to see that if the protagonist indeed tries to reach out to people particularly to the woman he likes he would only appear preposterous and these people would not even be able to understand him. In stanzas 95-97 the protagonist made an implication that he ever approach or make any kind of insinuation to a woman â€Å"roll†¦strength and all..sweetness up into one ball, and tearing†¦pleasures with rough strife † (Eliot, 1917) there is a huge chance that he would be misunderstood and worst they would be disgusted with him and put him off. The protagonist states â€Å"No!† because he sees himself as insignificant, he is so full of self-consciousness and because of that he is unworthy of â€Å"disturb(ing) the universe† (Eliot, 1917).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Now that the fundamental question of him asserting himself has finally been answered the protagonist is once again seen to be looking at what his life would be like (he would grow old and bald) and he would also wonder if he has the guts to eat a peach â€Å"do I dare to eat a peach† (Eliot, 1917). This particular line could be viewed in different manners one of which is that fresh fruit because of digestive problems however, the peach could also be seen to have an underlying sexual connotation. Fruits in general have a sexual connotation as the ripened ovary of a plant and peach in particular holds more sexual connotation because of its flesh like color, its soft texture and its downiness. The peach’s shape and texture symbolizes the female genitalia thus one could see in the line mentioned above that the protagonist is wondering that if he is unable to sexually assert himself to a woman while he was still in the prime of his life, how else would he be able to sexually assert himself when he becomes an old man. Peach also have other meanings. Peach is the Chinese symbol for marriage and immortality, both of which the protagonist so want to have in his life. As could be seen then, the protagonist pondering on whether he would dare eat a peach has got something to do with his sexual ineptness. As the poem ends, the protagonist was imagining mermaids, oe men’s ideal dream of women sitting on the beach, however, in spite of the fact that it only happened on his imagination, the mermaids still did not sing for him. When the protagonist was awakened from his dream by a human voice one could then conclude that even in dreams, the protagonist is still paralyzed and non-active. This particular paralysis, the protagonist’s inability to act and to grab at the opportunities given to him by life is the primary theme ever present in The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. ‘Cousin Marshall’ and the Role of Responsibility, Charity, and Suffering Harriet Martineau, in her story â€Å"Cousin Marshall,† addressed the separate spheres of work and responsibility between a husband and wife in the figures of the Mrs. Bell and Mrs. Marshall. Martineau intended the story to act as a lesson to her readers and this is reflected in the dualistic portrayal of the two women. Cousin Marshall is portrayed as the height of womanly responsibility and suffering while Mrs. Bell is portrayed as a blight on society. Martineau assigned the financial management of the household to women. While she did indicate that it was the husband’s role to bring in wages, it was the wife who was responsible for maintaining and managing the expenses of the household. Mrs. Bell turns away her sister’s children after their mother dies saying â€Å"don’t expect me to put any such dead weight on my husband’s neck† (Martineau 11). Marshall objects with the fact that Bell’s â€Å"husband earns better wages than [hers]† (11). In this exchange, Martineau places the decision within the context of the respective families’ financial concerns. The issue of charity arises in Marshall’s discussion with Mrs. Bell. â€Å"You have found the gentry very kind to you this year; so much so that I think the least you can do is to keep these children from being a burden on the rates† (Martineau 12). The particular phrasing that Martineau selects here is of particular interest. Her objection is not one of sympathy for the children but to prevent them from â€Å"being a burden on the rates† (12). If sent to the workhouse, Martineau argued, it would fall upon the state to support the children, raising the rates that good, hardworking people pay, often to their... ...dissolute to mock at those who prize independence, and who bind themselves to self-denial that they may practice charity. (129) Thus, it is the woman’s responsibility not only to live responsibly, but live by example in a role of quiet victimization. Martineau clearly had a strong political agenda in writing this story, however in doing so, she addresses the fundamental difference she sees in the roles of responsibility in marriage. In her mind, the husband and the wife have clearly defined roles, not so much along lines of production, but rather in terms of the household. That which is in the household, whether it is the domestic duties or financial responsibility, falls to the wife while it is the husband who is responsible for the income stream. I TLD understand the building when I first saw It's Image pop up, but with further Investigation, It grew on me. Maybe It Is because I am not an outdoorsy kind of person But the way the building Is designed, Is unique and quit intriguing. This building has many square edges, it seems basic along the outside of the building. But it is when you look at the materials used, the rocks along the exterior walls and the red paned windows and railings that seem to bring everything all together.I still am not sure if I like the way the building is put together, but it works for it's private and intimate location. It appears to have been always made for this location, the building seems almost natural. And the colors work very well together, again, all natural. Structure: The structure of the building varies with each area. There are 3 horizontal trays made up of reinforced concrete which form there three levels of the house. There are four piers, or bolsters anchored Into a boulder underneath the mall floor act as the fulcrum for the house.Counterbalancing weight to the back, or north side, of the house keep it from toppling into the stream. The cantilever, which is the long piece of concrete underneath the building is the basis for the entire structure. Materials: The materials which Frank Lloyd Wright has used to create the falling water building were very simple. He used sandstone, reinforced concrete, steel and glass. Which all the materials can be seen by loping right at the building. The building has many shapes and lines, but together it flows very peacefully.Some that re seen are pentagon, rectangle, semi-circle and squares pieces of the building. Talking about them separately, you wouldn't think they would flow as nicely. But they do work together In this setting. Context: The environment and the building all do flow nicely together. If this building was built in a rural area in a community of other rural homes, it would NEVER fit in. But this building creates t he environment and atmosphere as if it was always made to be there. It has become on with the river and surrounding landscape. It grows as the trees would grow that hover the river and building.
